UNDOCUMENTED UGANDA IN THE UAE ARE IN TROUBLE-DEADLINE EXPIRES 31DECEMBER,2

An unknown number of Ugandans living in the United Arab Emirates without valid residence documents are in trouble, as the deadline for updating their documents expires tomorrow, December 31,2

The United Arabs Emirates gave that deadline for undocumented immigrants to leave the country.

The deadline ran from December 1 to December 31, and many are confused.

More than 100,000 Ugandans work and live in the United Arab Emirates, but 25,000 Ugandans there are estimated to be undocumented.

There were those who went abroad through recruitment agencies but fled where they were taken to work, others took themselves there, others went on tourist visas and so on.

The Presidential Advisor on Immigration, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, in a statement, advised Ugandans who have failed to correct their documents to return home to avoid the problems they face after the deadline.

He advised the concerned Ugandans to contact the Ugandan embassies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the presidential office through the office of the presidential adviser on Ugandans living abroad, to see how they can be helped

However, it is said that many of those who failed to correct their documents and also failed to obtain visas and funds to return to Uganda, do not have passports some expired others went missing.
