Traders at Makerere Ku Bbiri, are left in tears after the fire destroyed all their property.
The fire destroyed 14 vehicles, all in the garage, wooden vendors, many were destroyed.
The fire broke out, behind the Crown House on Bombo Road at 2 in Mukwenda Zone, Makerere 1, Kampala.
Police have so far spread further and have been able to prevent it, entering the houses of nearby residents.
The blaze, which houses various traders including tailors, is said to have started around 10pm.
Some residents, led by village chairman Juma Kawuma, said the fire was believed to have been caused by a dispute between more than 100 workers and they had lost property worth Rw 600 million.
They said that as traders in the area, they have Mrs. Ruth Nakakaawa, chairperson of their SACCO, in whom they have been investing money, which they have to share every December, through the holidays and yesterday evening on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, they were they expect to give them their money, to share it expecting it to be in the 15 – 20 million.
However, chairman Nakakaawa failed to bring the money, which disrupted the situation and police intervened, to stabilize security amidst the protesting traders. Supposedly, the financial situation

In the same area, traders yesterday, December 18, 2024 , protested, after one of their leaders who had been saving them money to share by Christmas, when they asked him for it without it.
