Namirembe diocesan treasurer Rev Isaac Membe Kijjambu in trouble–asked to account for Church funds before resignation

The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese Rt Rev Bishop Moses Banja is taking action against church leaders who have been misusing church funds, selling off church properties and enriching yhem selves.
While meeting the diocesan staff at Namirembe Cathedral offices last December,the Bishop promised changes and reshuffles all-over the diocese,he maintained that these were to be transparent.
Starting with the diocesan treasurer and Arch-deacon of Mengo Arcdeaconary Ven Rev Isaac Membe Kijjambu,Rv Banja has asked him to account for missing funds and all works undertaken.

Ven Rev Isaac Membe Kijjambu had served as diocesan treasurer for over 30 years and also served the whole tenure of 14 years under Bishop Kityo Luwalira.
He has opted to resign.

However Bishop Banja has asked him to stay for two months and first prepare a handover report .

Rev Kijjambu has been asked to account for the monies that were used at the consecration ceremony of the new Bishop and even for the farewell of the out going Bishop Luwalira.

The money amounts to 1.3 Billion Uganda shillings which includes renovation of the Bishop’s residence and furnishing it,renovation of the Cathedral,the Bishop’s office,procuring a Vehicle for the new Bishop and others some of which were not done as budgeted.

Among the items of the budget that were not touched included procuring a Bishop’s vehicle which stood at 500 millions shiilings and furnishing the Bishop’s house at 200 million shillings.

At the concecration ceremony of the new Bishop at the Cathedral on December 10th the faithfulls that had contributed towards the Bishop’s vehicle but have only to seen the one bought by the president.

He has been asked to account for 600 million Uganda shillings that was contributed for the construction of ‘Baweereza House’ which works have stalled.
