Former Buganda Assembly Speaker Owek.Nelson Kawalya passed away early this morning.
He died at the hospital where he was taken in critical condition.
He died at the age of 84 years
His son Ssenteza Victor Kawalya said as a family working with the church, the Kingdom and Rotary will meet to issue funeral arrangements.
He had just celebrated 50 years of Holy Marriage
On December 14,2024, Owek Nelson Kawalya celebrated his 50th holy marriage.
The King sent her a message sent by Prince Kintu Wasajja, thanking her for her services to Buganda, and thanking her for protecting the marriage.
Retired Bishop, Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira who led the preaching at the ceremony , while administering the 50th anniversary oath, thanked his wife Naava Annet Kawalya for her contributions to Oweek Kawalya.
Bishop Luwalira described Kawalya as a calm person, who always had a smile, and who was a minister in various ways and never put his own satisfaction first.
He had just taken the chief Kalibbala to visit the descendants of the Kalanzi clan
The other most recent event he attended was the Kalibbala descendants of the Kalanzi clan in Kiryanyonza in Kalamba Deputy District in Butambala district.
Owek Nelson Kawalya urged them to do what they can to change their clan by starting development projects, and developing all clan and clan palaces.
The Minister of Information, Owek.Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, said that Owek.Kawalya has served the Buganda in various capacities without counting.
He was a Member of the Luganda Language Society, Minister of Health, Speaker of the Buganda Assembly, and the guardian of the Kalibbala chief.
He has been a strong Rotary member and founder of the Rotary Club of Mengo and has worked to ensure its existence for over 30 years
