The Uganda Police Force has recorded a 1.5% decrease in the number of cases reported to the Police.
Johns Martins Okoth Ochola, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), launches crime report 2023 at police headquarters Naguru .
According to Ochola, 231, 653 cases were reported to Police in 2022, to compared to 228, 074 in 2023.
Ochola said the Force’s focus has shifted to discipline discipline and adhering human rights. He said the Force has introduced disciplinary courts across the country.
Improving welfare of the personnel and recruiting more personnel to match the population.
Additionally, the force has been committed to improving the conditions in detention facilities.The remodeling of the facilities in various districts, including panyadoli, kiyandongo,paidha,maracha,Yumbe,Atiak, and Koloko has led to the elimination of the soil bucket system, proving 68% coverage of waterborne toilets.
Also, the police,in coordination with sister security agencies such as the UPDF, prisons,SFC,JIC,(CMI,ISO,CI and ESO) JATT, combated various forms of crime.These joint initiatives have resulted in the reduction of gun -related crime,illegal firearms and ammunition proliferation,terrrismt,ganga activities,marine crimes, housebreaking,burglaries,acid attack,motor vehicle thefts, cattle raids in karamoja and neighboring districts, among others.
