The Local Organizing Committee, led by Canon Dr. Gladys Oyat is facing numerous challenges ahead of the 47th Anniversary of St. Janani Luwum Memorial Day, which is held annually on February 16th.

The delay in releasing funds has made it extremely difficult for the committee to proceed with preparations. So far, the government has only disbursed 16 million shillings out of the total budget of 116 million shillings.

This year’s theme, drawn from the book of Romans, emphasizes conforming to the words of God rather than following the pattern of the world, making it especially relevant for the 47th Anniversary of St. Janani Luwum Memorial Day.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Hadji Marijan Walire, highlighted that this is a yearly national event with allocated budgets that must be released to the local organizing committee for smooth operations However, the national organizing committee has only allocated funds for construction, leaving other essential expenses, such as food and transportation, unaddressed.

The committee is urgently calling upon the national organizing committee to release funds where necessary to ensure the successful execution of the event.

Without adequate financial support, the commemoration of this significant day honouring St. Janani Luwum’s legacy is at risk of being compromised.
