ELECTORAL COMMISSION HAS STARTED GENERAL UPDATE OF NATIONAL VOTERS’ REGISTER FOR 2026-NO ONE WHO IS NOT ON THE REGISTER IS ALLOWED TO GET INVOLVED IN ELECTORAL MATTERS OR FILE A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT

The Electoral Commission of Uganda (ECU) has launched the general update of the national voters register across all districts in the country, for the 2026 general elections.

The scheme includes registration of new voters, especially those who have just turned 18, and those who have never registered,, removing the dead and giving an opportunity to those who want to change their polling stations, to do so.

The program started today, January 20,2025 and ends on February 10,2

The scheme was launched by the Chairman of the Uganda Electoral Commission Simon Byamukama.

Election Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the process would start at 2am and end at 12pm.

Muchunguzi said all the requirements for the job, and the staff have been adequately trained.

According to the electoral laws of the country, a person who is not on the electoral roll, cannot stand for election, cannot be the agent of that candidate, and cannot take any complaint to the Election Commission or a case in court regarding the election results
