635 Journalists were tortured in the past 5 years – HRNj report

The report on the violation of the rights of journalists in Uganda in the past five years has shown that 635 journalists are victims of the danger and violated their rights while performing their duties.

The report showed that 52 journalists who were denied their duties, 8 equipment was damaged, 3 were threatened with murder, 5 were taken to court ,2 their equipment was stolen.

The report showed that the Police Department is still the 38-member 20-year-old, the UPDF. And the Jat in third, with 13 mortgages, 2 Military Police, and 28 of the people were harmed to journalists.

A 50% attack was carried out on TV journalists, 27% of radio journalists, 9% of newspapers ,and 6.3% are to cover the networks.

The area received 70 journalists of 2024, Wakiso 12 cases, Gulu and Lwengo 5, Mpigi 4, Ala and Kyenjojo 3, while Mubende and Oyam 1 while other areas were not harassing journalists.

Journalists in Buganda have received 96 cases, 6 charges against Uganda, northern western, while West Nile is three counts of charges.

Launching the report in Kampala, the head of the Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda, Robert Ssempala, called for the establishment of a press conference to get justice.

Ssempala spoke about the low wage of journalists they have, and urged the media operators not to control the ministers.

Margret Ssekajja, who is a member of the Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda, said if the abuse of women journalists is increasing, women journalists are likely to quit and do other things.

Journalists, led by Ivan Kimuli Kigozi, is saddened by the way agencies demolished in violation of the rights they have failed to misbehave, and urged their leaders to do something.
